George Harrison, former lead quitarist for the Beatles, died at 1:30 PM Thursday at the age of 58. The legendary band member passed away at a friend\'s home in Los Angeles after a battle with cancer. Harrison became friends with Paul McCartney and John Lennon as a teenager. Harrison joined Lennon\'s band the Quarry Men and taught Lennon how to play guitar. Later on, Harrison gained the reputation for being the "quiet" Beatle--the calm one who kept the band together through the 1960s. But he didn\'t always blend into the background. Harrison played wild rock and roll guitar for songs like "Long Tall Sally," and "A Hard Day\'s Night," wrote classics like "Here Comes the Sun" and "Something," and introduced an Eastern flavor to Beatles music with the sitar in the unforgettable "Norwegian Wood." | Move the mouse over the highlighted words, you will get an explanation here. |
